BSD operating systems

The BSD operating systems are doing quite well given the (in comparison to Linux) little attention and the miniscule funding that they receive. In our opinion they still manage to beat Linux in various areas, making them attrictive options for a surprisingly large set of use cases. In others however, they are admittedly not in excellent shape or falling behind.

As BSD users we want to do our best to help the BSDs improve where additional work is needed (while not forgetting the big picture). But instead of asking for donations, we decided to make an attempt at kicking off a community hosting effort. That way people interested in this can benefit from our services and know that their money is being put to good use.

Don't get too excited, though: We're not quite there, yet! Or to put it plain and simple: Work started only in the second half of 2021 and the situation in Eastern Europe basically crushed our short term plans in late February 2022. Plus it's all volunteer work, so there's no guarantees or deadlines, either. We're an open project, publishing status reports to keep followers informed.

We strongly believe in the statement that "all BSDs are created equal". While we focus our efforts on the four major ones (DragonFly BSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD) as we are getting started, we do not simply dismiss the smaller projects.
